Fagu Festival Begins in Basantapur with the Erection of Chir on Phalgun Shukla Ashtami (32)

On the occasion of *Phalgun Shukla Ashtami*, the Fagu festival formally began on Tuesday morning after the *Fagu Chir* was erected in front of the Hanumandhoka Palace at Basantapur. According to the auspicious timing provided by the Nepal Panchang Nirnayak Development Committee, the Chir was raised at 7:13 a.m.

There is a tradition that the Fagu festival begins in the Kathmandu Valley every year after the Chir is erected at Basantapur on the morning of Phalgun Shukla Ashtami. The Fagu festival is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm from Phalgun Shukla Ashtami until the full moon day (Purnima).

फाल्गुन शुक्ल अष्टमीका अवसरमा मंगलवार बिहान वसन्तपुरस्थित हनुमानढोका दरबारअघि फागुको चिर ठड्याइएपछि विधिवत् रूपमा फागु पर्व सुरु भएको छ ।
नेपाल पञ्चाङ्ग निर्णायक विकास समितिले दिएको साइतअनुसार बिहान ७ः१३ बजे चिरोत्थान गरिएको हो ।

प्रत्येक वर्ष फाल्गुन शुक्ल अष्टमीका दिन बिहान वसन्तपुरमा चिर ठड्याएपछि उपत्यकामा फागु पर्व सुरु हुने परम्परा छ । फाल्गुन शुक्ल अष्टमीदेखि पूर्णिमासम्म फागु पर्व हर्षोल्लासका साथ मनाइन्छ ।
