Bhaktapur biska jatra

Biska Jatra is one of the most thrilling and intense festivals celebrated in Bhaktapur, marking the Nepali New Year with energy, chaos, and deep-rooted tradition. Unlike other religious festivals, Biska Jatra is known for its raw street action, where locals pull massive wooden chariots through narrow alleys in a dramatic tug-of-war.
The heart of the celebration takes place around Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Taumadhi Square, where the chariot of Bhairab is pulled by two rival groups, creating an electrifying atmosphere. The festival also features the erection of a tall ceremonial pole (lingo) at Yosin Than, symbolizing the victory over chaos and the start of a new year.
