Balachaturdashi Ritual at Pashupatinath Devotees Offer Shatbij in Honor of Ancestors

Devotees kept an all-night vigil from Tuesday and, on Mangsir Krishna Chaturdashi, observed the sacred Balachaturdashi ritual at Pashupatinath by scattering Shatbij in remembrance of their ancestors. The tradition, believed to help uplift departed souls, begins with lighting lamps the previous evening during Marg Krishna Trayodashi, staying awake throughout the night, and sowing seven sacred seeds around the Pashupati area on Chaturdashi morning. A unique part of the ritual includes gently shaking the Ganesh idol at Mrigasthali and calling out messages for the departed. This ancient practice, cherished for generations, symbolizes devotion, remembrance, and spiritual liberation.
मंगलबार रातिदेखि जाग्राम बसेर आज मङ्सिर कृष्ण चतुर्दशी अर्थात् बालाचतुर्दशीका दिन भक्तजनहरूले पाशुपत क्षेत्रमा पितृको सम्झनामा शतबीज छरेका छन् । बालाचतुर्दशीलाई शतबीज रोपण पर्वका रूपमा लिँदै विशेष गरी पितृ उद्धारका लागि उनीहरूको सम्झनामा शतबीज छर्ने गरिन्छ । बालाचर्तुदशीको अघिल्लो दिन मार्गकृष्ण त्रयोदशीको दिन पशुपतिनाथ लगायत देशका अन्य शिवालयमा दीप प्रज्वलन गरी रातभरि जाग्राम बसी चतुर्दशीको दिन शतबीज रोप्ने गरिएको छ । यसरी बत्ती बाल्दा पितृलोक झलमल्ल हुन्छ भन्ने विश्वास रहिआएको छ । सुरुमा सप्तबीज (धान, जौ, तिल, गहुँ, चना, मकै, कागुनो) छर्दै मृगस्थलीमा रहेको गणेशमन्दिर नजिक आइपुगेपछि मूर्तिलाई हल्लाउँदै ठुलो स्वरले दिवङ्गत आत्माले पाउने गरी सन्देश पुर्‍याउन अनुरोध गर्ने प्रचलन अर्को विशिष्टता हो । बोलीचालीको भाषामा शतबीज छर्ने भनिने शतबीज रोपणले पितृको उद्धार हुन्छ भन्ने जनविश्वास छ ।
