Muktinath Temple is a sacred site revered by both Hinduism and Buddhism, located 18 km northeast of Jomsom. It is believed that the temple was consecrated by Hindus as a Vishnu Temple, with its roots tracing back to the 19th century. In the Buddhist tradition, Muktinath holds significance as one of the 24 key tantric sites, where Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) meditated and attained enlightenment. Situated at an altitude of 3,762 meters (12,342 feet) in the Annapurna mountains, the temple is a highly popular tourist destination in Nepal, attracting visitors with its dual religious importance and stunning mountainous setting.
