Manga Hiti, Patan Durbar Square, Lalitpur

Manga Hiti—known as a traditional stone water spout system (ढुंगे धारा in Nepali)—is one of the oldest functioning water sources in Patan Durbar Square. Built in the 6th century, it continues to supply fresh water today through its ancient underground channel system.

The stone carvings on Manga Hiti reflect the rich artistry of ancient Nepali architecture. This dhunge dhara is a fine example of skilled craftsmanship, featuring Makara (crocodile)-headed spouts that release water from their mouths, supported by brick masonry walls. Each dhara, often carved from a single block of stone, showcases the creativity of Nepalese artisans.
