Kathmandu Marks the Vibrant Celebration of Indra Jatra

Indra Jatra, also known as Yenya Puni, the biggest religious street festival of Kathmandu, was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Basantapur. President Ram Chandra Paudel, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and other dignitaries attended the main day of the festivities, which featured the raising of the ceremonial Yosin pole at Hanuman Dhoka, along with rituals honoring Lord Indra, the Hindu god of rain and good harvest.

The eight-day festival also included Kumari Jatra, with the chariot processions of Kumari, Ganesh, and Bhairav through different parts of the city. Masked dances such as Majipa Lakhey and Pulu Kisi, along with cultural and musical processions, added color and vibrancy, making Indra Jatra a grand celebration of tradition, devotion, and community spirit in the heart of Kathmandu. 6 September 2025
