Indra Jatra festival began with the erection of the Lingo today, 3 September 2025.
The ceremonial pole of Indrajatra (Indra Dhwajotthan) has been erected at Hanumandhoka. The Indra Dhwajotthan was performed at 10:31 in the morning. With the raising of the ceremonial pole along with the Indra flag at Hanumandhoka in Kathmandu, the Indrajatra festival has officially begun. Indrajatra is traditionally celebrated by worshipping Lord Indra, the god of rain and prosperity. Among the many festivals observed in Kathmandu, Indrajatra is considered the biggest, most joyous, and most significant. In the Nepal Bhasa language, Indrajatra is called “Yen Yās” — where “Yen” refers to Kantipur city, and “Yās” means the main festival.

काठमाडौँको हनुमानढोकामा आज बिहान १० बजेर ३१ मिनेटमा इन्द्रजात्राको लिङ्गो (इन्द्र ध्वजोत्थान) ठड्याइएसँगै यस वर्षको इन्द्रजात्रा औपचारिक रूपमा सुरु भएको छ। वर्षा र समृद्धिका देवता इन्द्रको पूजा–आराधना गर्दै परम्परागत ढंगले मनाइने यो पर्व काठमाडौँका विविध जात्रामध्ये सबैभन्दा ठूलो, रमाइलो र महत्त्वपूर्ण मानिन्छ। नेपाल भाषामा इन्द्रजात्रालाई ‘यें यास्’ भनिन्छ, जसमा ‘यें’ को अर्थ कान्तिपुर नगर र ‘यास्’ को अर्थ मुख्य जात्रा हो।
