Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, situated in Nepal’s Kailali District within the Sudur Paschim Province, originated as Dhangadhi Municipality in 2033 B.S and was later upgraded to the status of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City on 01/06/2072 B.S. Positioned at an elevation of 109 meters above sea level and located 750 kilometers from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, the city boasts a flat geography, spanning an area of 271.74 square kilometers and organized into 19 wards.
It is surrounded by Kailari Rural Municipality to the east, the Mohana River to the west, and Godawari and Gauriganga Municipality to the north, while its southern border is shared with India. According to the 2011 Census, the city is home to a total population of 147,741 residents.
