Chaos in Kathmandu After Gen Z Movement Forces Prime Minister’s Resignation

On September 8 and 9, 2025, scenes emerged in Kathmandu showing damaged government buildings, political party offices, politicians’ private houses, government vehicles, media houses, and hotels following the Gen Z Movement in Nepal. During the intense protests against corruption and the social media ban, demonstrators set fire to the parliament and several government offices. As a result of these events, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli was forced to resign, and the army was deployed to restore order in the capital. Kathmandu, 10th September 2025.

भदौ २३ र २४ गते काठमाडौँमा भएको “जेन जेड” आन्दोलनपछि क्षतिग्रस्त बनेका सरकारी भवन, राजनीतिक दलका कार्यालय, सरकारी सवारीसाधन, मिडिया हाउस र होटलका दृश्यहरू देखिएका छन्। भ्रष्टाचार र सामाजिक सञ्जाल प्रतिबन्धविरुद्धको तीव्र विरोधका क्रममा प्रदर्शनकारीहरूले संसदसहित विभिन्न सरकारी कार्यालयमा आगजनी गरेका थिए। यस घटनापछि प्रधानमन्त्रीले राजीनामा दिन बाध्य हुनुपर्‍यो र राजधानीमा शान्ति–व्यवस्था कायम गर्न सेनासमेत परिचालन गरिएको थियो।
