Blackbuck, Bardia, Nepal

The Blackbuck (Antelope cervicapra), known as कृष्णसार in Nepali, is a graceful antelope native to the Indian subcontinent, recognized for its black-and-white coat and spiral horns. Once on the brink of extinction in Nepal—with only nine remaining in 1975—the species has made a remarkable recovery thanks to the establishment of the Krishnasaar Conservation Area in Khairapur, Bardia district, in 2009. Spanning 16.95 sq. km, this reserve has successfully increased the Blackbuck population to over 200, representing a significant achievement in wildlife conservation and habitat restoration.
