Baikal Teal बैकालगैरी हाँस

The Baikal teal (Sibirionetta formosa) is a small, colorful dabbling duck found in East Asia. Known for its striking plumage, it breeds in Siberian wetlands and migrates to Korea, Japan, China and other countries in winter. This species thrives in freshwater habitats, feeding on seeds, aquatic plants, and small invertebrates.
The Baikal teal is a rare winter visitor to Nepal, occasionally spotted in wetlands. Sightings are uncommon, making it a significant species for birdwatchers and conservationists. After 20 years, it finally appeared in the Kathmandu Valley in 2025.
