Udhauli Festival उधौली

Udhauli is a significant festival celebrated by the Kirant communities, including the Sunuwar(Koinch), Rai, Yakkha, and Limbu (Yakthung) people of Nepal. It marks the migration of people and animals to lower altitudes during winter and symbolizes gratitude for a successful harvest. Traditionally, Udhauli occurs in November-December (Mangshir) during the full moon. Rituals include offerings to nature and ancestors, dances like Sakela, Syandar, Chyabrung, and prayers to their deities. It reflects harmony with nature, the cyclical balance of life, and the Kirant way of life. Udhauli is a joyful occasion of cultural preservation, uniting communities in faith and celebration.
