vivah panchami, janakpur

Vivah Panchami is a festival celebrated in Janakpur, Nepal to commemorate the marriage of Lord Ram and Sita, as described in the Hindu epic Ramayan. Observed on the 5th day of the first quarter of Margashirsha (November/December).

During Vivah Panchami, a grand procession takes place in which idols of Lord Ram and Lord Sita are carried in chariots decorated with flowers and traditional decorations. Thousands of devotees from different parts of Nepal and India come to Janakpur to participate in the festival. The procession begins at Ram Mandir and continues through the streets of Janakpur accompanied by music and dance performances.

The festival also includes wedding reenactments in which devotees dress up as Lord Ram, Sita and other Ramayan characters.
